MISSION The mission of MEDCS Continuing Education, LLC is to enhance the Medicare drug coverage knowledge, skills, and confidence of the Insurance Agent, whose role as an advocate is pivotal in supporting the healthcare decisions of Medicare beneficiaries. INSTRUCTION METHOD The is an online course offering using scenario-based examples for teaching and testing to simulate the challenges of everyday realities during interactions with beneficiaries. There is an understanding and appreciation that each beneficiary's encounter brings with it a different set of circumstances. And, while the course focuses on Medicare drug affordability challenges, it is not developed in isolation of other Medicare dynamics and challenges. COURSE DESCRIPTION This course is comprised of 14 modules, requiring forward progression, without skipping modules or lessons within modules.. At the end of each module is a quiz requiring a 70% pass rate to progress through the course, until its successful completion. Several modules are content dense, requiring 2 quizzes, with each requiring the minimum 70% pass rate. Quiz retakes are allowed. One to two "Knowledge Check Questions" questions, are embedded within modules throughout the course to support continued engagement. Answering these questions is required though not graded. Reading each lesson is a prerequisite for course progression to the next lesson before advancing to the quiz at the end of the module. While skipping ahead is not allowed, revisiting previously reviewed course material is allowed. Each lesson and each module serve as building blocks towards completing the course. You are allowed to start and stop at your own pace, but the course must be completed within 90 days of the first date of course registration. FOUNDER The content of MEDCS CE's offerings is guided by the training, knowledge, and expertise of its founder, Desiree M. Shelling, a licensed insurance agent, retired pharmacist, pharmacy educator, and Medicare beneficiary with a 40+ year career working in the healthcare sector. She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from Xavier University of Louisiana College of Pharmacy, a Master of Science Degree in Hospital Pharmacy from the University of Minnesota, and a Master of Healthcare Administration Degree from Tulane University of New Orleans, Louisiana. She also completed an ASHP Residency at United and Children's Hospitals in St. Paul, Minnesota, an Executive Associate training program at The Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas, and an Administrative Fellowship at Charity Hospital of New Orleans. About the course

"Navigating Medicare Drug Affordability Challenges," is a 5.0 credit continuing education Medicare-related, classroom equivalent course, It addresses drug coverage-related issues of beneficiaries enrolled in Original Medicare, Medicare Advantage, and standalaone Prescription drug plans, which covers medications under Medicare Part B as well as under Medicare Part D. GENERAL COURSE DESIGN Modules: This course is comprised of 13 modules. COURSE PROGRESSION Each topic and chapter is listed as a pre-requisite and must be reviewed before being able to progress to the next lesson within a module to take the module's quiz. No skipping ahead is allowed. The progression is sequential. MODULE QUIZZES Assessment of content comprehension is achieved using scenario-based cases and questions to enhance real-world problem-solving skills reflected in the daily interactions between agents and the beneficiaries you serve. In most cases there is only one quiz per module. At least 2 modules have 2 quizzes due to the information density of the topics presented. To obtain a Certificate of Completion, all lessons must be completed with each quiz requiring a minimum 70% pass rate. Quiz retakes are allowed. Knowledge-Check Questions may be embedded within a module to keep the agent engaged in the lesson. The embedded questions are not graded, but must be answered to continue the progression through the course. After the successful completion of all reading, Knowledge Checks, and Module quizzes with a 70% passrate, agents must complete the Course's Evaluation before a Certificate of Completion is available for immediate printing or saving for later printing. COURSE GOALS Reviewing CMS and regulatory requirements governing Medicare drug coverage. Reviewing the entities or stakeholders that impact Medicare drug coverage and out-of-pocket drug costs. Developing separate Agent and Beneficiary Call-to-Action (CTA) Plans to overcome Medicare drug affordability challenges. It's transferring knowledge into action that will make a difference in the lives of those that we serve.
